[...] Flexor Carpi Ulnaris (FCU) TendinosisDecember 2nd, 2011 The flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU) tendon is on the palmar side of your wrist, above the small finger. It is one of the major tendons that flexes your wrist. Occasionally, overuse can cause damage to the FCU tendon. As opposed to the flexor carpi radialis (FCR) tendon, which runs in a sheath and can get ‘pinched’ by it (see previous blog on the FCR tendon), the FCU tendon has no sheath. FCU overuse leads to painful degeneration of the FCU tendon itself, similar to the tendon degeneration found in tennis elbow and painful rotator cuffs. [...]

Dr Budoff,

I am from the Abilene Tx area and have been struggling with a strong burning pain on the back of my shoulder between my scapula and my spine for several years. My primary care doctor is thinking it is a problem with my supra-scapular nerve. Do you know of any doctors near the Abilene area who perform the arthroscopic procedure you are describing? If not, is there any possibility I could come to Houston for a consult. I have tried every conservative method to no avail. Thank you for your time.

Hi Dr Budoff, I am in Canada, I was doing online research and I came across your Blog. I realised not that many days ago that I have intersection syndrome, I was diagnose with DeQuervain tendinitis last year and I worked with the injury all year, now after 4 months off tree-planting, I am just about to go back to work in a couple weeks. Is there any splint that are effective for intersection syndrome? and now that I know that I have intersection syndrome, is there any exercice that I can do prior to go back tree planting, and would you recommend stretching? thanks a lot for your time.

Dear Doctor Budoff,

I have EPL rupture as a result of right wrist fracture.
I was telling Dr.S that the cast felt too tight; he ignored my plea. On 9/2/11 Dr.S stated that my “bones healed beautifully”, without checking for thumb function after taking the cast of. I went to 3 different doctors. The last renowned Dr.F on the same x-ray saw healed distal radius fracture “with radial shortenings, posterior cortical collapse causing Lister’s tubercle prominence and ulnar + variance“.
He told me that in addition to tendon transfer surgery, my bone did not heal right and needs to be re-broken…

I am very scared and deeply depressed over this situation as I love to play tennis and always stayed active.

What will happen over the years with my arm and the thumb, if I leave these conditions untreated? Presently I can cook, sew and play tennis. I was hoping that I can avoid surgical procedures.
What will you recommend? Do I have to have both surgeries?

I am the female of 63 in good health.

Thank you kindly, Larisa
